(that’s a line from The Late Show, paying out the ABC.
Also, I just used ‘paying out’ as a phrase. Sorry, I thought we were back in the year 2000. Funny how it’s always The Year Two-Thousand and not just 2000, or two-triple-oh.)
I feel like my canned laughter button is broken.
My friend Jon has a thoery which he has proven many times, and even made a point of mentioining it in my 21st speech. Jon believes that even though I know a punchline to a joke, I’ll always laugh after the punchline is delivered. Not only that, it’s genuine laughter. And it’s basically true. Jon’s joke delivery is statistically high and not all of them hit the right note, but he’s probably the funniest person I know.
Anyway. Have been watching TV lately. We all have. Haven’t been laughing.
I’m not sad, but you know how despression as an illness is depression, but depressing something is an action? Like, depressing the button? I’m in the button stage. I know it will be back. I’ve been in this phase of life before.
Usually I’d be trying to find was to defunk it all. I just can’t. On the other hand, my too-emotionally-sensitive button has also been depressed, so my eyes no longer get all tear filled when I see something nice. It’s good. It’s kind of like I’m temporarily balancing myself out. But, man, I hope it doesn’t last long.
